Cristina Zagaria - English Bio


Cristina Zagaria is 35. She was born in Carpi, but her origins are in Taranto. She took her BA in Literature at the University of Bari and after that she attended the School of Journalism in Bologna. She was employed by the newspaper La Repubblica and worked in Bologna, Bari, Rome and Milan. She has been living and working in Naples from 2007, always for la Repubblica.
In 2006 her novel “Miserere: vita e morte di Armida Miserere” – Miserere: life and death of Armida Miserere - (Dario Flaccovio) was published.

In January 2007 she wrote an essay on the Italian universities’ scandals of the last ten years, from last Moratti’s education-reform to the beginning of Prodi’s government. The essay "Processo all’Università. Cronache dagli atenei italiani" – The University on trial. A report from Italian Colleges was published by Dedalo within the series directed by Pietro Barcellona.

In November 2007 she published "L’osso di Dio" – God’s bone- (Dario Flaccovio), taken from a real ‘ndrangheta story.

In 2009 she published "Perché no" – Why not - (Perdisa Pop), a short story set in Naples and inspired by a real event.

In October 2010 she published "Malanova" (Sperling & Kupfer): the true story of Anna Maria Scarfò, a Calabrian girl who dared accusing her rapists and is today living under security, having been threatened with death for her courage and and because she broke down the conspiracy of silence.
